Wrap Up

It took a while, but our expedition report was eventually completed, and is now available for download from the main site. I hope it might be of interest to some, and of use to anyone considering an expedition to Renland.

Also added to the site is a short video that Anto and I produced as an ending to the lecture we gave in Queen's University a few months back. It was shot mostly by Les and McCloy with their still cameras in Video mode, on our way back to Constablepynt. The music is Hoppipolla, by Sigur Ros - who were playing open air in Reykjavik the day we got back there - one of the most sureal contrasts i've ever experienced, going from the remoteness of Renland to the noise and crowds of an open air concert, in bright sunshine at 10pm!

Finally, I heard the other day that a team of dutch climbers plan to visit Renland this summer. Check out their website www.verticaldissidents.net. Best of luck and enjoy!

Public Lecture Tonight

The QUB Greenland 2008 team will be giving a slideshow presentation on their experiences in Renland, tonight, in the David Keir Building at Queen's University, at 8PM.

We hope to be joined by representatives of some of our sponsors, without whose support such an ambitious and successful expedition could not have taken place.

All are welcome to come along, and we hope you will enjoy sharing in some of our experiences from our time in such an awe-inspiring environment.

Home Safe

The Team on the broad, snowy summit of "Donal Deery" 2083m

The team returned to Belfast last night after a highly successful expedition during which new routes to virgin summits were climbing on rock, ice and snow in alpine style, and large areas of glacial terrain explored on ski. A summary report will be issued over the coming weeks, and followed in due course by a full expedition report. Many thanks to our sponsors and all those who helped make this expedition such a success.

The mid-way call

And so the half way point has been reached. A breif phone call on monday evening to signfy half way was short due to minor problems with the satelite phone. Despite this it sounds as though so far so good and it appears that the expedition is going well. As we continue to assume that little or no news is good news, let us hope that the next couple of weeks go by smoothly.

Snippets

Well, the first report has come through from Renland:

Camp set up, all going well.

Short and sweet but at least it's all going to plan! Hopefully we'll get some more news through soon.

Hi from Iceland

Just about to go to bed now.
We have an early start to get the plane to Greenland tomorrow.
We slept in the airport last night, it was quite strange to have daylight outside, but we were all so tired that we selpt anyway. Thanks to the airport officials for not kicking us out like they are supposed to.
Tonight we are in the luxory of a youth hostel, followed by an airstrip tomorrow and Renland the next day!

See you all soon,

Anto

All Set

Last minute details being tidied up this morning before our departure. Thanks to everyone who has lent advice, assistance and moral support in helping us prepare for this adventure!

If the technology all works there may be a few brief updates while we're away, so check back, but if not, look forward to a full report on our return.

Thanks again.
